Ryan Walton is the art department intern for Rise of the Guardians.

About him[]

Ryan Walton is a cinematographer and layout/previs artist based out of Los Angeles. Born and raised in Colorado, Ryan developed a deep passion for filmmaking and storytelling at a young age. He attended Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts where he recieved dual BFAs in Film Production and Digital Arts. While in school, Walton interned at DreamWorks Animation where he had the privilege of interacting with some of the best minds in the animation industry.

After graduating in May 2012, Ryan was selected as a recipient of the Leo Freedman Foundation and Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellowship in Film Awards for his work on Light Me Up, an animated short that he wrote, shot, and directed. Since its completion, it has screened at the Director's Guild of America and a number of Oscar qualifying film festivals.

Ryan strives to take on projects that challenge him creatively and emotionally, aiming to bring a unique vision to each project he undertakes.

Dreamworks[]

Supported the Art and Matte Painting Departments on the animated feature Rise of the Guardians and gained in-depth knowledge of the animation process and DreamWorks pipeline. Recorded minutes during Production Designer, Art Director, and VFX Supervisor meetings with Visual Development and Matte Painting Artists to create prioritized action lists for departments. Updated artwork boards, assembled breakdown sheets, gathered reference material, and cataloged artwork.
